Lot description:

LYCAONIA. Iconium. Antoninus Pius, 138-161. AE (Bronze, 14 mm, 2.43 g, 6 h). ANTON AVG P[IVS] Laureate head of Antoninus Pius to right. Rev. COL - ICO River-god reclining left, head to right, holding reed in his right hand and reclining on urn with his left arm. RPC IV online 7755 corr. = Von Aulock, Pisidien II, 1069 corr. (misdescribed as 'Cremna'). Of the highest rarity, apparently the second example known. Earthen deposits and light cleaning marks, otherwise, nearly very fine.

The Istanbul example was misattributed by von Aulock to Cremna, an error which was followed by RPC IV online. Our example, however, shows that the reverse legend is in fact COL ICO, a reading that is confirmed by the close stylistic similarities of the coin to other known Antoninus Pius issues from Iconium (RPC IV 7258-7259).
